This cannoli dip is a variation of the cream you would use to fill a cannoli. I didn’t grow up eating cannolis. I didn’t know how awesome cannoli cream is and never ever had Easy Creamy Cannoli Dip.
It is different than the usual dessert you might bring or appetizer. Easy Creamy Cannoli Dip is a lighter dessert and you do not need a lot to satisfy your sweet craving.
A cannoli was not part of my heritage growing up, and we didn’t buy things from the bakery. Most of the sweets we had were things my Mother would make herself. I don’t remember her ever using a boxed mix for anything. I remember when she would bake my Uncle who lived with us coming down from his room when the air was filled with those awesome kitchen smells to see what she was baking. His favorite was apple pie. I remember he would tease her and pretend to pick up the pie and steal it when she wasn’t looking. Bot could that woman bakes pies!
This recipe is the next best thing to take to your picnic or family gathering.
Later on after I was married I lived in the Bronx for many years and discovered how wonderful cannolis are. If you never had a cannoli it is an Italian pastry in the form of a hard tubular shell that is filled with sweetened cream made with ricotta cheese. It’s the cream that makes the cannoli S000 good. I had a friend who would spoil us with baked goods and Italian Deli Cold cuts and he introduced me to this sweet treat and it was love at first sight!
I’ve made cannolis before and they are not difficult at all to make. You can buy the shells and make the cream and put them together yourself fairly quickly. It is a simple mixture of powdered sugar ricotta and some other goodies to make it flavorful.
I remembered cannolis the other day when we were talking at work other day about this grocery store that makes cannoli Cream dip. The grocery store is far away, and nobody lives close enough to pick it up on the way to work.
I went home and looked in my pantry and saw that I have what I need in the fridge to make cannoli cream and felt adventurous and adjusting knew the recipe would be easy to make it a dip. Worth the experiment.
It is always fun to experiment in the kitchen and this recipe is easy and quick. Flour tortillas make great cinnamon chips to dip in the cannoli dip. For dipping purposes I think you could substitute fresh fruit cut up, light cookies, or graham crackers. But the cinnamon chips are worth the little extra time they take to make.
