HOW TO MAKE GREAT GUACAMOLE
Guac on toast for breakfast, guac with chips for lunch, guac with anything for dinner. It is so good and it’s hard to keep from making faces and yummy noises when I eat it. But I am not the only one!
Don’t be afraid of avocados because you think they are fattening! Avocados are a delicious, creamy superfood that are too good for you health to skip out on. The amounts of healthy fats and nutrients found in avocados , vitamin E, oleic acid, lutein, and folate, can help protect your body from heart disease, cancer, and degenerative eye and brain diseases.
Avocados are really tasty and are easily incorporated into any meal, or smoothie. Avocados are a healthy fat and our body needs healthy fat and I want to make sure my body gets what it needs. The conclusion I came to is my body needs guacamole. Well ok, so just saying I like it just doen’t say enough. What could be healthier than fresh veggies and fruit in a dip?
In my recipe I use a lot of cilantro because we love it in my house. It makes everything “fresh”. But you can leave it out if you don’t love it.
I love my new mortar and pestle. I have never owned one nor did i know it was the one thing I never knew i wanted. It was a great Christmas present and I refer to it as my vintage food processor. It made some awesome Guacamole.
If you don’t have one just mince your garlic and tomatoes and cut up your cilantro finely and mix together.
A mortar and pestle allows the ingredients to be added and mixed and blended in a different way allowing the spices to release their fresh flavors and oils. Mortars are great for making things like guacamole, and pests. (Pesto actually derives its name from pestle pounding. ) Cool huh?
The advantage to using a pestle to grind your spices is that sharp blades in a food processor do not do as good a job of releasing oils present in herbs. Pressing the spices with your pestle in a mortar does and awesome job and the difference is evident. It may take longer, but it is by far a better method. First you add the spices and grind them to release their juices and flavor and then add avocados. Use the mortar to break up the avocado to the desired consistency. .
Dip chips and enjoy. Excuse me while I go eat mine.
Now isn’t that easy and delicious!
